Sleep Clinic at Institut Perubatan Respiratori, HKL

Not the very best of pic ... but just to let you know that I was at a sleep clinic recently and was asked to participate in a sleep study. I am suffering from OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) and that's why I feel sleepy all the time. I apparently do not get enough sleep at night hence the oxygen level in my blood becomes very low.

Almost set now, target get up time .. 0600 hrs! Nite2

Laat pic before I get some shut eyes ... check out the wires and stuff strapped to my body. Will I get some sleep?

I must say that the sleeping area at the Sleep Study Clinic is extremely comfortable!

Me getting all strapped up!

how much RM did it cost you for the sleep test? and what procedure did the doctor take to cure your OSA? thx in advance

i don't know exactly how it costed because i was referred to be a government doctor and all i paid was the rm25 for consultation. apparently, there is no cure for OSA. the docs did advise to buy a CPAP machine whoch costs around 7K. apart from that there is surgery but the doc says that the healing process is very very painful!

Sleep study may be done in the following centres in the Klang Valley: -

Government Hospitals: -
1. Institute Perubatan Respiratori (IPR) - waiting list = 4-6 months long
2. Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (PPUM) - waiting list = 3-6 months long
3. Hospital PutraJaya
4. Hospital Serdang (for children/paediatric only)

Private Hospitals: -
1. Sime Darby Medical Centre
2. Sunway Medical Centre
3. Damansara Specialist Centre
4. Prince Court Medical Centre

Other hospitals/clinics outsource Home / Partial Sleep Study to medical vendors. These partial studies are cheaper but without CPAP titration. The above list are centres that are equipped with dedicated Full Sleep Study.

The difference in cost is approximately RM160-500 for Government and RM1200-2000 for private centres.

The important thing is to find a good medical specialist who can diagnose a patient's problem and initiate effective treatment.

Cheers! :)

I happen to come to this site when I was browsing for a doctor/centre that helps with sleep problems/insomnia. Ever since my father passed away in February, my mother has had difficulty sleeping at night and has since been suffering from sleep deprivation and anxiety. She seems to have become reliant on lexotanil. I am very worried as I lost my father early this year and want to help my mum get some normal sleep without any medication. Would the centers mentioned in your site would see such patients?

Hello Nazia and thank you for visiting my site. I am very sorry to hear about your family's fate and as a result, your mother has been losing some sleep. Umm ... about your question, if I'm not mistaken, my situation is medical related, I have problems with my air passage way and that's why I needed the sleep test - to evaluate the seriousness of the condition. In your case, your mom is sleep deprived from a loss of family member. I do not want o assume but I do not think the clinic would accept such patients. I was referred to the IPR by a government doctor from HKL. My advise, see the docs there and I'm sure they'd suggest something,k? In the meanwhile take care and regards to your mom for me.

Assalam, Encik Faikay.

Dia tak terima walk in patients.
